What Exactly Is The Root Of The Mold Problem At Home?

The simple explanation for mold growth is water intrusion. There is no way for mold to flourish without water, yet some molds require more water than others. Most molds prefer warm conditions, while others can survive in cooler climates.

Mold spores, which are only a few microns in size, can be found virtually anywhere. Spores can survive for a long period without water in cool, dry locations, and then begin to grow again once they come into contact with moisture.

Mildew is notorious for its rapid growth and contagious nature. Mold thrives when mold spores divide and flourish, and it spreads when these microscopic, airborne spores are transferred from one location to another by wind or by animals.

Water or moisture in places that should be dry are common contributors to indoor mold growth. For instance, mold can start growing in your kitchen if there is a leak under the sink. After starting under the sink, mold can quickly spread to the rest of the kitchen and beyond.

What Causes Mold?

Mold flourishes in damp areas. One or more of the following may be to blame for an abundance of moisture in the house:

1- Some sort of roof damage

2- There’s either a broken pipe or a leaky one.

3- Problems with water seepage behind or beneath washbasins or commodes

4- Washing machine and dishwasher hose leaks

5- A lack of ventilation in a cooking or bathroom

6- Low-ceilinged, ill-ventilated attics

7- Sinks, tubs, and toilets that overflow

8- Condensation in the home caused by poor insulation or poor drainage outside

9- Disappearing grout in the bathroom shower
